New members are always welcome! Whether you are a rusty returner, an experienced musician or someone who has little experience of playing in an orchestra, you would be made very welcome. We have players from approx Grade 3 standard up and a basic level of sight reading is required. Please message us via the contacts form or on our Facebook page. We are currently looking for violin and tuba players in particular.
As we will need to prepare music for you, please contact us before attending a "test drive" rehearsal!
Our players are a variety of standards and we encourage any rusty returners, including those who may be new to ensemble playing or more
experienced players to come and give us a go.
There are no expectations and many of our members have worked their way up from beginner to advanced level with perseverance and the
support of the orchestra.
Find out more about some of our current members below.
Name: Sandra McLean (Sandy) Instrument: Violin
When did you join TLO? November 2013
Favourite thing about playing in TLO: Fun, relaxed people who make everyone welcome
Favourite piece to play with TLO: The King and I, with Pirates of the Carribean a close contender
Favourite biscuit in the rehearsal break: Jammy Dodgers if I am allowed!
Name: Alex Chattington Instrument: Double Bass
"When I retired I was looking for a group to play with (initially I was looking for 'Big Band'). I was invited to try TLO because a Bass was needed. 22 years later... and I still enjoy the variety of music but it's the friendly crowd that really makes it!"
Name: Liz Seers
Instrument: Cello
When did you join TLO?: 2021
How did you hear about TLO?: I was looking for a welcoming orchestra to start playing with others and did an internet trawl - TLO popped up and looked just the ticket.
Favourite thing about playing with TLO: Everyone is friendly and supportive, so you can play at your level without worries, but also be motivated to improve. The music we play is easy to challenging, but most importantly it’s fun, interesting and memorable. The conductors and organisers are great, they give you confidence.
Favourite piece to play with TLO: Currently Snow White Medley (all those swirling strings) but I loved Hamilton (great brass).
Favourite biscuit to eat in rehearsal break: Bourbon of course.
